Ruby Slipper in Monet’s Garden – PLUS Reader Giveaway!

If you follow Ruby Slipper on Instagram, you may very well have seen the adventure that Cecylia and I had taking over Friday Nights at Monet’s Garden at the NGV. With only a few weeks of this ‘art-party’ event left before the sumptuous Monet’s Garden exhibition moves on, Ruby Slipper and the NGV have A DOUBLE PASS TO THIS FRIDAY NIGHT IN MONET’S GARDEN to give away to one lucky Ruby Slipper subscriber. More details on that at the bottom of this blog. In the meantime – enjoy our vitual visit to ‘Giverny’ on St Kilda Road where we wined, grooved and contemplated alongside Mr Monet’s waterlilies.

Friday Nights at Monet’s Garden are unlike your usual trip to the gallery – from the moment you arrive at the neon-pink floodlit monolith of the NGV International, there’s a celebratory buzz in the air. Once you arrive, you’re free to roam the gallery – which has both the Monet’s Garden exhibition on show in addition to other features. I really loved the beautiful interpretation of Monet’s waterlilies (the plant he so enjoyed rendering during his time at Giverny) in the forecourt – gently floating porcelain bowls moving unctuously while a champagne sipping, laughing and chatting crowd looked on. Magic.

Special lighting showed a decidedly romantic side to our favourite art institutions, blushing prettily over the night’s revelry.

The Great Hall is made for partying with Monet – featuring luminous new screens which portray lush gardens in addition to highlighting future shows at the NGV. This is also the space that a DJ spins a set, and a feature band rocks out in (we saw Seekae last Friday night). This coming Friday evening, you’ll be lucky enough to see ‘Harmony’ play their set after you’ve enjoyed the exhibition.

Feeling peckish? I know I ALWAYS am. Peter Rowland catering offers a French-inspired market menu to keep your tummy happy – of which Cecylia and I sampled almost everthing with many oohs and aahs (and sips of champagne and juice). Cheeses, fruit pastes, duck pithivier with salad, strasbourg sausage….. ooh ahh. It was tres magnifique! For the full menu available on Friday Nights at Monet’s Garden, please click here.

With my delightful date Cecylia (spot MiniKee!) enjoying a ‘Pretty in Pink’ moment. Style notes: Micky in the Van dress (floral just for Monet) and Django & Juliet heels.
