Networking is a dirty word, which often makes one feel immediately sweaty-palmed and distinctly lacking in business cards. However,  somewhere in the back on your noggin, you know that it’s important to get out there and meet new people. Whether you’re a business owner or a professional type, the occasional forum where you can meet like-minded peers and learn from another’s business experiences is essential. Well, the League of Extraordinary Women is the space for you to expand your networks – so fear bland boardroom ‘meet n’ greets’ no longer! (L-R: Sofia Levin, Kyra Pybus, Iolanthe Gabrie, Melina Walton)

My good friend and colleague Kyra Pybus (pictured below) of Pybus PR was recently guest speaker at a terrific League of Extraordinary Women breakfast event at the Rose Diner in Port Melbourne. Kyra spoke to a diverse audience about the development of her boutique agency, which was launched at a challenging time in the economy. Naturally engaging and a brilliant storyteller, Kyra spoke about the various challenges of being an independent business owner – in addition to a few of her successes!

I had the pleasure of meeting other like-minded business women, enjoying a light and tasty breakfast and hearing an inspiring talk. When you’re in your own business (as I am), it’s great to hear about other people’s challenges and achievements. Occasionally, working in small business can be isolating – you feel as though the snares and barbs are unique to you. By frequenting relaxed networking environments such as the League of Extraordinary Women, you’re swiftly (and happily) reminded that you’re far from being alone in your challenges (and successes!)
