I like old things. Like Barry Humphries, Alan Rickman and cloche hats. I also like the odd vintage market, and the last two weekends I’ve had the pleasure of attending both the Truly Vintage Market at Hunter & Co in Preston and the Love Vintage Show at the Royal Exhibition Buildings. Although not a huge buyer of vintage myself (I find that most of the vintage clothes I like best are in Grace Kelly sizes, and yours truly is more of a Anita Ekberg physique) – I do like the furs, cute hats and cheesy ephemera that come with vintage shops and markets. I particularly like the Truly Vintage Market, a gig organised by my sweet friend Marianne from Esme and the Laneway in conjuction with Trish from Hunter & Co (I’m pictured here with Trish) who has an amazing store on Plenty Road in Preston that’s a must-visit.

Jesus’ burning heart cupcake #cupcakeofchrist at Hunter Finds – which has two stories of fun vintage and tack you won’t be able to visit without picking up something special. I myself found a D&G style ‘Sicily’ scarf in deep emerald, orange and white just right for putting in my hair.

Oddities: L: Australian Natives’ Association with odd Star of David icon and indigenous blokes R: Don’t talk about chains and convicts to Tasmania – Westpac’s sensitive desk homage to the southern state.

This is Jem. I spotted him walking to the Love Vintage Show wearing these beautiful boots and leather ‘leggings’ – a vintage chap is nary seen! He was charming, a former bookstore owner and devoted Dad. He was also puffing on a pipe. Bonus points, level up!

This buxom beauty styles for the Lindy Charm School. I think her name was Kelly. She had a fetching snood and a great brooch too. You took can be fierce like Kelly and learn the secrets of vintage hair and makeup at the Lindy Charm School.

A highlight of the Love Vintage Show was the small Vintage Wedding feature. L: A slinky bridal number R: A slinky bridal post-festivities number!

My favorite image of the day: a Christian Dior ballgown styled with fur. I really love this model’s modern look, it enhances the exquisite gown – her hair reminds me of Vienna in the 1890’s. (Not that I was there!)

I also sported big vintage hair at the Love Vintage Show. Do you like my Bladerunner-inspired 1940’s volume?

A vintage show’s no show at all without a little lindy hop and an invitation to the Gatsby Soiree at Malvern Town Hall! See you there on Friday 31st May, 2013?
