So, I’m not a person who’s particularly finicky about my hair. That could be because I’ve got so darn much of it – after I blowdry it, there’s a vertiable wookie on the floor of my bathroom. I’ve had short hair, long hair, curled hair, worn my hair in braids, buns, rolls – you name it – this head of hair’s done it. All except ….. blonde. Even though I have blue eyes, I’ve always worried that blonde hair would be too harsh – too much maintenance. Until yesterday that is – after my luxurious afternoon at Organika Hair in Carlton, where Director Sarah Di Iorio introduced me to honey-blonde hair in the form of balayage.

Let the rejuvenation begin! Sarah and I consulting on color and (a little) trim to tidy up the mane post-Summer. Organika Hair are located in Elwood and Carlton, and focus on using products which are free from chemicals and irritants. This healthy philosophy makes sense, since Sarah grew up near the Dandenong Ranges (like moi!), on a hobby farm where fresh-picked veggies from the garden was a normal part of her lifestyle.

organikaruby3After having my color applied and being spoilt with lemongrass and ginger tea (plus a sneaky block of dark chocolate), I was escorted downstairs to Organika’s peaceful relaxation zone. This is a calming space filled with floating candles and flowers, the quiet burble of water fountains …. and your Organika therapist ready to give you a scalp massage plus refreshing arm and hand massage. I’ve never had a treatment as intensive as this at any other salon – comparable to a massage at a beauty therapist’s –  and my arms, wrists and hands were duly relaxed after a week at the keyboard.

organika3As you can see – my first blonding experience went well! I loved the soft honey color at the tips of my hair – lightened but still natural. Sarah has convinced me to go lighter still next time ’round. What do you think?

I was going on to an event after my salon session, and being a super hot night, thought soft waves the way to go. These freestyle curves were created using a miracle tool to put your straighteners to shame – the Cloud Nine Wand. This unique tool allows you to create natural body, waves, curls, pin-curls – EVERYTHING – without the harsh ‘bump’ that straighteners create at the roots of your hair where you begin to apply heat. Stay tuned for more details on The Wand in a future blog-post!
