Last week Shu Restaurant in Collingwood opened its doors to more than nearly 200 arty/foody/fashion types, who enjoyed crisp bubbly Laurent-Perrier and Capi drinks while socialising and snacking upon the delicate oysters and traditional Sichuan fare that came from the bustling kitchen. Ruby Assembly were excited to attend, and look forward to taking the time for a proper sit-down meal at Shu in the near future.
Minimalist and industrial in design, the front window looks more gallery than temple to all things culinary – filled with a vignette of farm animals and a towering, neon tower of Philippe Starck ‘Ghost’ chairs. Shu will likely be a multi-disciplinary space with a gallery zone to the rear of the site. The cuisine itself is traditional Sichuan-style using fresh and organic local produce.

Clockwise, starting far left: Irish Rivera of Stylezilla, James Banham of Ravishing Retail and Calvin Chong from Vanity Press, Sofie Camili of Fame PR and Iolanthe Gabrie, Shu Liu giving his heartwarming thankyou speech.
Watch this space – Shu Restaurant is rich with possibility and we look forward to seeing how Shu’s passion and enthusiasm translates into the Melbourne dining scene. The launch was a success, buzzing with people all wishing Shu Restaurant well for the future. How auspicious!
Such a fun night – what a super crowd! Lovely pics!
